We asked time to carry the Nightscout Foundation and #WeAreNotWaiting flag at the AT&TD conference last week and he was good enough to submit this report.
TUNING THE LOOP...an Update
As we slowly and methodically move forward in the process of "Tuning our Loop," I find myself extremely grateful for the multitude of resources at our disposal as members of this community.
The new Nightscout Grilled Cheese (0.9.1) painstakingly programmed by Jason Calabrese & Team is absolutely THE very best Nightscout I have ever used. The list of people that have contributed to this release is staggering and we thank you profoundly. Sometimes we describe all the additional features of Nightscout as "Bells & Whistles," when in fact they are crucial monitoring aspects of a complete system that i have at my disposal to tune and then fine tune Loop (I could not even hope of tuning our Loop for our son's specific physiology without all of these "Bells & Whistles).
We are extremely grateful for the OpenAPS structure & organization, and the full buffet of options it provides to solve specific needs for our child as we close the Loop. We are thankful for the Devs (Dana M. Lewis, Scott Leibrand, Ben West, Jason Calabrese, Nate Racklyeft, Chris Hannemann, Pete Schwamb, Milos Kozak, Sulka Haro, Mark Wilson, among others), that have created the Open Source tools needed to further the medical device revolution while we continue to wait for the upcoming industry solutions over the next several years.
As i sit here typing this at 2:00 AM (while on overnight Loop testing watch), I internalize the deep significance of these contributions from our worldwide developers, and how greatly fortunate we are as a community to have these resources and tools available to us for our loved ones large and small, old and young.
Thanks to Kate Farnsworth for designing and programming the SkyLoop watch face and for providing me the one and only compelling reason to dust off my Pebble Time to replace my Apple Watch (if you know me, you know the significance of this ; )
As we deal with tubing and our Medtronic pump (having used Omnipod for the majority of our son's 9 years of T1D), I have confirmed to me each and every day that we NEED an omnipod solution prior to the scheduled release in late 2019. If you too would like to make it happen sooner rather than later, please consider contributing to the OpenOmni.org project to bring OpenAPS & Looping to those using Omnipod. If all the Omnipod users in our worldwide community gave a little, we could create the type of change that will drastically IMPROVE the lives of thousands needing a tubeless solution.
Great thanks to the Devs giving of their time in the multiple Gitter support channels and to those that cross the divide into the Facebook support groups Pete Schwamb, Katie DiSimone, Kate Farnsworth, Dana M. Lewis, & Scott Leibrand (among many, many more).
To the "CGM in the Cloud Tech Support Team" that has been an invaluable resource for the last two and a half years. Amy Cowen, Kate Farnsworth, Rachel Sandlain, Marybeth Helfrich, Robyn Withay, Kyle Cross, Melanie Clegg, Wendy N Grant Youngson & Crystal Chrisman. Around the clock, around the world, always available, always helping, always there.
GREAT thanks to Hristina Dimova our Admin for Nightscout Bulgaria that helped our family through a "perfect storm" in the beginning of our Loop journey : )
And finally to all those that have not only created tools for dealing with T1D, but have also given of their time and expertise in mentoring & advisory roles (Gustavo Munoz, Kenneth Stack, Stephen Ponder, Pierre Vandevenne, John Costik, James & Melinda Wedding, Jason Calabrese, Adrien de Croy, Jason Adams, Laurie Schwartz & Gail DeVore.
So as our family "tunes our Loop," I realize that there are many many more that I see "behind our Loop," more than I can remember, more than I even know about, but our gratitude extends to each and every one.
OH! and thanks to the Monster Energy Company for their help in maintaining the watchful 24/7 eyes that monitor our son while we close the Loop ; )
"It Takes A Village" is not a platitude, it's how we get things done!
